Perfect way to use VDF in Moters

Why VFD is used in motors?

The Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is also known by the name Adjustable Frequency Drive. The drive and the VFD panels are mostly used in the electromechanical systems, can vary the voltage and input frequency of the motor, and can control the torque and speed of the AC motor. The machine is used in a wide variety of applications that may range from a small appliance to the large compressors.

Frequency (measured in Hertz) is directly proportional to the speed of the motor (measured in RPMs). When the application does not has a requirement of an electric motor running at its full speed, the VFD can offer control and can ramp down the frequency so that the motor gives desired and usable output, and there is no wastage. In most of the cases, the power output required changes, and VFD is quite efficient towards decreasing the wearing of the components of the motor and towards saving of electricity.

Working Of The VFD

VFD possesses the soft “start and stop” capability and adjustable speed. The four main sections of the drive include a rectifier, converter, intermediate dc-link, and the controlling unit.

The rectifier converts the AC power that the VFD gets, into DC power. It consists of SCR’s (Silicon Controller Rectifier), diodes, transistors, and the electronic switch devices. In case the VFD uses diodes, a minimum of 6 of diodes are required for a 3 phase conversion VFD. In this case, the converted power (DC) is not controlled. In case the VFD uses SCR, the output power can be controlled through gate control.

DC Link

The function of this component is to receive and store the DC power. And to deliver it. The DC power that comes out of the rectifier is fed within this link. This section also has the inductors and capacitors that can smooth against the ripples. The capacitor can absorb the ripples of alternating current and provide the desired results.

 Control Circuit

The control circuit includes a microprocessor unit. It can perform functions including configuration of the drive, settings control, and the interfacing of the communication protocols among others. The control circuit receives feedback signals from the main motor and regulates the frequency and voltage for controlling the speed of the motor.

Benefits of Using VFD

The use of VFD has a number of benefits to offer.

Reducing the consumption of energy and energy costs

An up-gradation or installation of VFD can help you save up to 70% of the cost associated with the energy consumption and electricity bills. Use of VFD also improves the quality of the end products. VFD installation is known to offer the return on initial investment in not more than 6 months.

Better process control

Use of VFD lessens the errors of a production process, thereby increasing your revenues. There are no jolts on the conveyor belt as well.

Extending the life of an equipment

Because of the use of VFD, your motor faces lesser issues related to the electro-thermal overload. VFD also offers phase protection from over/under voltage.

The use of VFD/Variable Frequency Drive Panel is getting increasingly common in industries and manufacturing process worldwide because of the immense benefits. You can buy a reliable VFD upgrade from a leading supplier and attain cost-related benefits during purchase as well.
